The Salute to Veterans Weekend is themed around Celebrating the 250th Anniversary of the Founding of the United States.
Founded in 1917, Selfridge Air National Guard Base is one of the most historically important military aviation sites in the Midwest.
The base is particularly unique because it hosts multiple branches of the military on one base, including: Air National Guard, U.S. Coast Guard, Army, Customs and Border Protection, and Homeland Security operations.
Many Michiganders know it for the loud sound of A-10 “Warthog” aircraft flying overhead. Those planes are famous for their massive GAU-8 Avenger cannon, one of the most powerful aircraft guns ever built.
