The Gordie Howe International Bridge finally opened!
It’s the longest cable-stayed bridge in North America. The bridge directly links Interstate 75 in Detroit with Highway 401 in Windsor, creating a seamless freeway-to-freeway international connection.
The bridge has: six traffic lanes (three in each direction), 216 stay cables, two 722-foot towers, and there are no support piers in the Detroit River, allowing ships to pass unobstructed.
And now they are officially opening the multi-use path for pedestrians and cyclists.
There is no toll for pedestrians or cyclists using the multi-use path. (However, motor vehicles do pay a bridge toll.)
The bridge crossing is approximately 1.5 miles long.
Because this is an international border crossing, you must carry valid travel documents (such as a passport or other acceptable border identification) and pass through customs and immigration on both sides.
