Legendary hip-hop collective Wu-Tang Clan will bring its farewell celebration back to Metro Detroit this September, joined by fellow ’90s rap icons Bone Thugs-N-Harmony.
A landmark night for hip-hop fans
Formed in Staten Island in 1992, Wu-Tang Clan transformed hip-hop with its raw production, martial-arts imagery, unconventional business model and collection of distinctive individual voices.
The group’s landmark 1993 debut, Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers), produced classics including “C.R.E.A.M.,” “Protect Ya Neck,” “Method Man” and “Da Mystery of Chessboxin’.”
Fans can expect a career-spanning production drawing from Wu-Tang’s group catalog, individual members’ solo recordings and material rarely performed live.
Bone Thugs-N-Harmony joins the tour
Special guest Bone Thugs-N-Harmony makes the evening an unusually strong pairing of two defining groups from hip-hop’s golden era.
The Cleveland group developed an unmistakable sound by combining rapid-fire rapping with layered vocal harmonies. Its best-known recordings include “Tha Crossroads,” “1st of tha Month” and “Thuggish Ruggish Bone.”
Both groups helped expand the possibilities of hip-hop during the 1990s, but they did so in remarkably different ways: Wu-Tang through rugged East Coast production and multiple competing personalities, and Bone Thugs through melodic harmonies and flowing vocal patterns.
