Influential British rock and blues guitarist Eric Clapton returns to Detroit.
Detroit is the opening night of a highly limited six-show U.S. run, followed by Cincinnati, Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Kansas City.
Clapton is now 81, so opportunities to see him perform a complete arena concert are increasingly uncommon.
The concert also has an exceptional blues-guitar pairing. Opening performer Jimmie Vaughan co-founded the Fabulous Thunderbirds and is the older brother of Stevie Ray Vaughan. Clapton’s touring band includes respected longtime collaborators Nathan East, Doyle Bramhall II, Chris Stainton and Sonny Emory.
Detroit also has a meaningful place in Clapton’s history. Clapton’s band Cream ended its first American tour with three concerts at Detroit’s famous Grande Ballroom in 1967.
