The Library of Michigan and Library of Michigan Foundation are pleased to announce that Wayne Kramer of Detroit rock band MC5 is the keynote speaker for the 2022 Night for Notables celebration on Saturday, April 30, at the Library of Michigan, in Lansing.

The Night for Notables is an annual celebration of the recognized Michigan Notable Books selected as well as Michigan’s best writers.

Born in Detroit in 1948, Wayne Kramer first came to prominence as founding lead guitarist of the Detroit rock group MC5. They stormed the rock world with 1969’s Kick Out the Jams.

The MC5 guitarist announced a new album set for release later this year, which will mark the first new music recorded under the MC5 banner in 50 years. The new album, titled “Heavy Lifting,” is due out in October 2022.

The 8-date U.S. tour will kick off at Detroit’s El Club on May 5, 2022.

MC5 is on the ballot for this year’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame class, the sixth time the band has received a Rock Hall nomination.
