As battlefields evolve, so too does the manner in which Marines are armed and equipped.
The United States Marine Corps Warfighting Laboratory (MCWL) was established in 1995, at Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia.
The purpose of this battle lab is to experiment with new concepts and improve current and future naval expeditionary warfare capabilities for current and future operating forces.
The Marine Corps Warfighting Laboratory generates and examines threat-informed, operating concepts and capabilities and provides analytically-supported recommendations to inform subsequent force design and development activities.
This is where they field test and develop the weapons and technology utilized by Marines who fight for our Nation’s causes. Marines that serve in the Warfighting Lab are assigned the Corps’ Science & Technology Division, where the latest in all things innovation remain top priority.
Testing Military Weapons
The lab has hosted hundreds of war games. Designed to field test new, improved, and concept weaponry, war games allow Corps leadership to examine, identify, and select the technologies, systems and approaches that are best suited for Marines in their varied situations. War games are conducted annually to stay up to date on the issues vital to the future of the Marine Corps.
