ROYAL OAK, MI – You can be among the first people in the entire country to see a horror movie shot in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.
The movie stars horror icon, Doug Bradley, who played Pinhead in the “Hellraiser” film series.
Emagine Entertainment is hosting the North American red carpet premiere of “Thorns” at the Emagine in Royal Oak in Metro Detroit on Saturday, February 17 at 7:00 p.m.
Cast and crew of the movie will walk the red carpet at 6:30 p.m. at the premiere, including Bradley, as well as Michigan natives, writer and director, Doug Schulze and editor and co-producer Julie Schulze.
There will also be a Q&A prior to the film hosted by Anthony LaVerde, CEO of Emagine Entertainment.
The movie follows Archbishop Jenkins (played by Bradley), who mentors an ex-priest working for NASA, sent to investigate a remote observatory that went silent after receiving a mysterious radio signal from deep space. When he arrives, he discovers the signal opened a portal unleashing a thorned monster. The former priest must now summon his lost faith to stop the signal from spreading hell on earth.
“At its core, “Thorns” is an homage to 80′s era monster movies, from our use of practical effects to a synth fueled music score and lots of easter eggs,” said the movie’s writer/director, Doug Schulze. “Hellraiser,” “The Thing,” “Alien” are all great films with even greater practical makeup effects. For me, the best horror cinema steers away from the computer realm when pursuing all things visceral. “Thorns” is meant as a visceral experience.”
The film was shot entirely in Michigan at the Motion Pictures Institute in Troy and in the Upper Peninsula.
