The Porkies, aka: Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park, in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula voted one of World’s Top Skinny Dipping Hotspots

ONTONAGON, MI – A remote part of Michigan has been ranked as one of the top spots in the entire world to frolic around in your birthday suit. However, if you bare it all in this area known for actual bears, you are doing so at your own risk as it is not legal.

Dating advice website, My Dating Adviser, is out with its 2023 list of the top 100 places to skinny dip in the world.

The ranking lists Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula at number 31 in the world and at number 3 in the U.S

With more than 60,000 acres, this is Michigan’s largest state park. “The Porkies,” as it’s known, is located in the western U.P. The park has nearly 100 miles of trails.

For its study, My Dating Advisor says it compared 100 nude beach spots in multiple categories, including beach quality, safety, weather and hotel cost.

A spokesperson for the publication did acknowledge to MLive that not all locations on its list are legal and anyone skinny-dipping may be doing so at their own risk. The same was said by Wilderness State Park Manager Mike Knack.

“Porcupine Mountains has 23 miles of Lake Superior shoreline, so I’m sure in the back country areas, some amount of skinny dipping does happen,” Knack acknowledged to MLive in an earlier interview. “That being said, there are a fair amount of hikers on the trails each day and someone may see you. It’s not a highly recommended activity, but I’m sure some people out in the wilderness do wild things.”

According to Michigan law, anyone caught for indecent exposure could be charged with a misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail and/or a fine of up to $1,000. It’s also an unlawful act on land owned by the Michigan DNR.

“Michigan’s 103 state parks are places where people of all ages recreate. Park visitors should keep that in mind,” John Pepin of the Michigan DNR told MLive. “In addition, there are state laws and Michigan Department of Natural Resources land use orders that prohibit public nudity.”
