Le Bal des Débutantes, also known simply as “le Bal” (or, previously, the “Crillon Ball”), is a debutante ball and fashion event held annually in November in Paris, France.
Attendees are invited, there are no tickets to purchase.
This event brings together 20-25 “debutantes” aged 16 to 22 from many countries, together with their parents and a similar number of young men.
Debutantes are upper class aristocratic young women.
Originally in the 1700’s, these types of balls were established as part of the British upper class’s social calendar. These events launched well-born young women into society and — with luck — also introduced them to a potential husband.
Nowadays, it’s mostly a fashion event and yes, upper crust match-making among illustrious families still goes on.
