Lapeer Days Festival

That’s right, folks! The Lapeer Days Festival has been going on for over 120 years.

Attracting over 100,000+ people annually, it is also Michigan’s largest free festival.

The carnival portion of Lapeer Days began at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16 and will run through Sunday, Aug. 20.

The festival will feature a parade, exotic animal show, beautiful baby contest, beard contest, live music and more.

The Eli Young Band, a country group based in Texas known for “Crazy Girl” and “Even If It Breaks Your Heart,” will take the stage on Saturday night at 10:30 p.m.

There will be live performances from more than 15 different musical groups.

The Lapeer Optimist Club has donated more than $3 million to Lapeer area youth programs since 1978 — much of that money coming from the beer tent and BBQ chicken dinner the Club hosts during Lapeer Days. All of the club’s 54 members and their families will “work” the BBQ chicken dinner to be served from noon to 6 p.m. The carry-out, drive-thru event is held in a parking lot along Park Street. Hurst expects the Optimists to prepare 4,100 chicken dinners. Presale tickets for the dinner are $13, available at the Chamber office on Park Street or from any member of the Optimists. Cost on Saturday is $15.
