3 Rescued From Lake Erie After Boat Sinks (Monroe, Michigan)

MONROE, MI — Three people were rescued Sunday by fishermen on Lake Erie in Monroe County after their boat sank, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

Officials said the boat overturned and sank in 25 feet of water roughly 3 miles off the shore of Sterling State Park in Monroe on Sunday afternoon at 3:23 p.m.

Nearby fishermen pulled three people, who were on the boat, from the water and taken to the Boat Launch at Sterling State Park, according to the sheriff’s office.

A 45-year-old man was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and the two other people were treated and released at the scene, according to the sheriff’s office.

Officials were working with towboats to recover the sunken boat and has put out a safety broadcast regarding the submerged boat, according to the sheriff’s office.

“Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough would like to thank the first responders as well as the good Samaritans who assisted with the successful recovery of the three victims involved,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.
