GRAND RAPIDS, MI – 83-year-old golf legend Jack Nicklaus will be the keynote speaker at Davenport University’s annual scholarship fundraiser this spring.

Nicklaus, aka: the Golden Bear, has been a professional golfer since 1961.

Davenport’s 24th annual Excellence in Business Dinner Gala is slated for Thursday, May 25. The gala is the private university’s largest fundraising event to support student scholarships.

During the event, Davenport President Richard J. Pappas will interview Nicklaus on stage about his professional golf career, his involvement in golf course design, and his philanthropic work, according to a university news release.

Nicklaus is one of only five golfers to win all of golf’s modern majors, referred to as the career “Grand Slam.”

As a golf-course designer, he has created almost 320 courses over the last 55 years, the university said.

The gala event will also recognize Jackie Taylor, a consultant for Pondera Advisors, as a top business leader from the West Michigan community.

Davenport University is a non-profit, private university with about 5,000 students. Campuses are located across Michigan and online.

Please note this is a black tie event.
