Seasteading Institute, based in San Francisco, wants to build a series of floating cities called The Floating City Project, in French Polynesia.
So far, they have raised $2.5 million dollars from 1,000 donors.
The main concern here is that rapid climate change is causing rising sea levels. According to scientists, the world’s oceans will rise 5-6 FEET by 2100!
Each island will cost $10-$50 million dollars to build. The islands are completely self-sufficient cities with the ability to link together or break apart and float away on their own.
