Blobfest is an annual 3-day festival held in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania (about 30 miles NW of Philly), celebrating the 1958 sci-fi horror film The Blob, which was filmed at the Colonial Theatre.
The festival features screenings of the original movie, a recreation of the famous “run out” scene where the audience flees the theater in terror, and various other events like a street fair, costume contests, and live entertainment.
Plot of The Blob (1958):
A drive-in favorite, this sci-fi classic follows teenagers Steve (Steven McQueen) and his best girl, Jane (Aneta Corseaut), as they try to protect their hometown from a gelatinous alien life form that engulfs everything it touches. The first to discover the substance and live to tell about it, Steve and Jane witness the blob destroying an elderly man and grow to a terrifying size. But no one else has seen the goo, and policeman Dave (Earl Rowe) refuses to believe the kids without proof. Inspired by a 1950 incident in Philadelphia and filmed on location at the Colonial Theatre
