Bill Laimbeer was the starting center for the Detroit Pistons during the legendary “Bad Boys” era of the late 1980s and early 1990s.
Laimbeer became notorious for extremely physical, confrontational basketball. Hard fouls, screens, trash talking and getting under opponents’ skin were central to his reputation. He was one of the players who most embodied Detroit’s intimidating Bad Boys identity.
At 6’11” and 245 pounds, he was one of the defining personalities of the teams that won consecutive NBA championships in 1989 and 1990.
He was actually a very good player. His villain reputation sometimes overshadows his ability. Laimbeer was a four-time NBA All-Star.
Laimbeer is the Pistons all-time leading rebounder. Laimbeer collected 9,430 rebounds as a Piston, still the franchise record.
At the signing, Laimbeer will be joined by Pistons enforcer, Rick Mahorn! Mahorn and Laimbeer formed an infamous frontcourt combination.
