Armed Forces Day is a U.S. holiday held every year on the third Saturday in May to honor the men and women currently serving in the nation’s military branches:

Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, and Space Force.

It was created in 1950 after the U.S. unified the military under the Department of Defense following World War II. President Harry S. Truman helped establish it as a single day to recognize all branches together.

It specifically honors active-duty service members, unlike Veterans Day (all veterans) and Memorial Day (those who died in service).
