America’s Boating Club of Detroit (ABCD) aka: the Detroit Power Squadron, was founded and officially created in 1916 as a unit of the United States Power Squadrons, the world’s largest boating organization.
ABCD are sailors, power boaters, and paddlers who have a common appreciation of “simply messing about in boats”. However, you do not have to own a boat to be a member. They are a volunteer organization with a non-profit status.
One of our the objectives is to promote safe boating through Education. The United States Power Squadrons offers a large selection of basic and advanced courses and seminars. There is everything from basic inland and coastal, to offshore boating.
Another primary objective involves other community and civic services such as the Vessel Safety Check program. During the boating season, qualified members conduct courtesy vessel safety checks of boats at the request of their owners.
As a member of the Detroit Power Squadron you can enjoy many benefits including discounts on marine insurance. Most of the meetings and some social events are held at the historic Detroit Yacht Club on Belle Isle. You can enjoy the camaraderie while learning and helping others.
ABCD headquarters are located on Belle Isle at
