An air show, 1940s era concert, a military flyover, World War II veterans, and more are all part of the 80th Anniversary of D-Day Ceremony at The War Memorial.
80 years ago, the tide was turned as Operation Overlord began – with the invasion of D-Day in Normandy to reclaim France from the German forces.
This evening will feature remarks from U.S. Army Brig. Gen. Michael Lalor. This evening will also feature a USO-inspired concert from the Rhythm Society Orchestra on the lakefront lawn and a live air show over Lake St. Clair! The air show includes aircraft from the Tuskegee Airmen National Museum – the North American T-6 Texan, Vultee BT-13 Valiant, and the Boeing Stearman.
Guests are encouraged to arrive early to explore the wonders in the CAF Rise Above traveling exhibit. The exhibit will be open from 12 – 7 pm.
Food trucks will be available on-site. Guests are welcome to bring their own picnic and chairs, but by Michigan law, no outside alcoholic beverages may be brought onto campus.
