ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – A St. Augustine woman came home to find a naked intruder in her home, eating her canned pineapple, deputies said Tuesday.
Deputies said that when they arrived at the house on Thompson Bailey Road, the suspect, Mary Hamilton, told them, “The door was open for me to come inside,” according to a report from the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office.
Hamilton, 63, now faces charges of burglary and theft, following the incident last Wednesday afternoon.
The homeowner, upon finding the intruder, went outside and locked herself inside her car while she called authorities.
Deputies also determined that Hamilton entered through the homeowner’s front door, took a T-shirt belonging to the victim’s son and ate leftover food from the refrigerator before opening the can of pineapple.
It doesn’t appear the homeowner and Hamilton knew one another. However, deputies learned Hamilton lives about a half-mile from the victim.
Hamilton was taken to the county jail.
