The annual World Nomad Games are taking place here. The competitions are based on folk games of historically nomadic people.
Primarily, Nomads form two large distinct cultural groups: Turkic and Mongolian. Kazakhs, Kyrgyz, and Uzbeks, among others, are Turkic-language-speaking nomads.
Over 20 different types of sports will be played by over 2,000+ participants from more than 85 countries around the globe.
The sports include: horse races, national types of wrestling, traditional intellectual games, competitions in martial arts, traditional archery, national types of hunting with birds (falconry), kok boru (headless goat polo), etc.
