White Boy Rick will finally get a parole hearing.
On Thursday, June 8th, 2017 at 9am, he will go before the 10-person Michigan Parole Board at Cotton Correctional Facility (3500 N. Elm Ave, Jackson, Michigan) and their decision could affect the rest of his life.
Detroit drug dealer and federal informant Richard “White Boy Rick” Wershe was 17-years old when he was sentenced to life in prison in 1988.
His story is a long and complicated one involving a dangerous environment, police corruption, juvenile manipulation, drugs, murder, women and ends with the extreme over-sentencing of a 17 year old.
Recently, the documentary ‘White Boy‘ about the case, made by Seth Ferranti (Gorilla Convict), Shawn Rech (Transition Studios), Scott Burnstein (Oakland Press) and others had a world premiere in Detroit. Mr. Burnstein is also working with White Boy Rick on his autobiography.

And currently, at this very moment, Hollywood is filming a crime drama in Detroit & Cleveland called ‘White Boy Rick‘ about the case starring Matthew McConaughey, Piper Laurie, Bruce Dern, Jennifer Jason Leigh and others.
Will White Boy Rick be granted parole?
This is only the 2nd parole hearing he’s been allowed in almost 30 years. His last parole hearing was in Plymouth, Michigan and Kid Rock was there along with many FBI agents in support of Rick’s release.

There’s more to this than we know. If he stays in or gets out, either way I don’t care.

“Detroit media coverage of the story of Richard Wershe, Jr., better known to the public as White Boy Rick thanks to relentless media use of that nickname, has been deplorable, shoddy and often wrong for close to 30 years. The inexcusable erroneous reporting calling him a “drug lord” and “kingpin” is one of the reasons Wershe has been in prison since age 18. Detroit’s news media owes it to this man to finally tell his story correctly.” http://www.thedimedroppers.com/2015/09/a-media-smear-that-has-lasted-nearly-30.html

“Richard John Wershe Jr. is a political prisoner in America. The political component of his ordeal is local, it’s harsh and it’s vindictive.
Wershe, who grew up in Detroit, was sentenced to life in prison without parole for a non-violent drug crime committed when he was 17. The law was eventually changed to allow parole but that hasn’t made a difference for Wershe. He is Michigan’s last remaining juvenile non-violent drug offender, still behind bars after 29 years.”
