Michigan’s big General Election Day is next Tuesday, November 6th, 2018.
Polls are open 7am-8pm.
Thanks to the Coalition to Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol political committee (“who recognize marijuana prohibition has failed and believe it is time for Michigan to adopt a more sensible policy”), their Michigan marijuana petition got 360,000 signatures and it will be on the ballet this year as Proposal 18-1.
Proposal 18-1 (aka: Prop 1, aka: the Marijuana Proposal), is a vote to pass a law that will legalize, regulate, and tax marijuana for recreational use in Michigan for adults aged 21 and older.
Michigan polls are open 7am to 8pm. GET THERE AND VOTE YES ON MARIJUANA!
To vote, you have to be 18 years or older.
All of the early pre-election surveys show “The Marijuana Vote” will pass with 60-70% of the state in favor of legalization.
If it does, this will be a major game-changer for Michigan and the USA.
Proposal 18-1 (aka: the Marijuana Proposal)
A proposed initiated law to authorize and legalize possession, use and cultivation of marijuana products by individuals who are at least 21 years of age and older, and commercial sales of marijuana through state-licensed retailers.
Prop 1 states that:
Adults 21 and up could possess 2.5 oz of marijuana on their person, have 10 oz at house, and can grow up to 12 plants at home.
You can’t drive high. And employers can still fire you if you test positive for marijuana.
There will be 3 types of growers license = Class A (100 or less plants), Class B (500 max plants), Class C (2,000 max plants).
Marijuana will be subject to the 10% retail sales excise tax and the 6% State of Michigan sales tax.
Micro-dispensaries could grow and sell at one location.
LARA (Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs) will administer and oversee the regulation of the marijuana industry.
If the Marijuana Vote passes, LARA will begin accepting applications starting November 2019.
The Michigan Regulation & Taxation of Marihuana Act will be the main guidelines for regulating cultivation, production, sale & taxation of recreational marijuana.
Estimated tax revenue for the State of Michigan:
$200-300 MILLION DOLLARS PER YEAR!
Currently under federal law, marijuana is still hilariously falsely labeled a Schedule 1 drug.
Schedule I drugs are defined as “drugs with no currently accepted medical use and a high potential for abuse.”
Gallup is a private company based in Washington, D.C. They conduct international public opinion polls.
The most recent Gallup Poll shows 66% of American adults are in favor of legalizing marijuana. That’s 2 out of every 3 voters. Majorities of both Republicans and Democrats are in favor of it.
