Cutting across Lake St. Clair at speeds of over 50mph, the USS Detroit, entered the Detroit River on Friday, October 14th, 2016 and is now docked outside the RenCen at Port of Detroit (130 East Atwater St, Detroit).
The USS Detroit will be here for 10-days (ie: October 14-23), until heading across the water to Windsor, where it will be docked from October 24th-27th.
After that, the USS Detroit will sail to California to be home-ported in sunny San Diego.
So what is the USS Detroit? The USS Detroit LCS-7 is the United State’s Navy’s newest highly adaptable combat vessel.
This 378-foot long Freedom class vessel costs $440 million dollars, weighs 3900 tons and cruises at 45 knots (52mph).
There will be FREE public tours on Wednesday, October 19th from 1pm-5pm. The tours run every 15-minutes and are first come first serve.
Then on Saturday, October 22nd, 2016, the USS Detroit Commissioning ceremony will be held on the Detroit Riverfront were it will be officially commissioned in front of 4,000 attendees by the United States Navy.
