Tiki culture has been growing rapidly, especially in the United States, over the past few decades.
Many people are now converting their garages into full-scale tiki bars.
Josh and Rachel Papuzza in Ventura, California, recently converted their 2-car garage into a tiki bar called Tapu Tiki, which seats 20 people and even has a hot tub.
Josh is a bartender at VenTiki Lounge & Lanai and with help from his friends, he was able to do the entire job for around $30,000.
Michigan even has a growing tiki culture.
There’s the annual Tiki Party @ Chin’s Chop Suey in Livonia. Typically held the second Saturday in December from Noon-6pm.
Southwest Detroit has a great tiki bar called The Mutiny (4654 Vernor Hwy, Detroit) and there’s a new-ish tiki bar on the Eastside called Lost River (15421 Mack, Detroit).
Tikiphiles abound. Check it out!
