John Woo’s 1989 Hong Kong crime film The Killer is coming to Canton’s Emagine Theater.
Plot:
Hitman (Chow Yun-fat) accidentally blinds a nightclub singer during a job gone wrong. He feels guilty and takes on one last assassination to pay for her eye surgery, while being pursued by a relentless cop. The hitman and cop have an unusual philosophical dynamic.
John Woo’s trademark style of slow motion gun battles, dual pistols, well choreographed shootouts, flying white doves, dramatic standoffs, gunfights as cinematic art, became influential worldwide.
This film elevates action into emotional storytelling: tragic characters, moral dilemmas, genuine pathos.
The final sequence inside the church is considered one of the greatest action scenes ever filmed.
