From the snowstorms, air pressure and oxygen content at the peak of Mount Everest to the dry glowing heat of the African desert. At terraXcube, all the different climates of Earth can be created.
terraXcube opened in April 2019. It is Eurac Research’s extreme climate simulation center at the NOI Techpark in Bolzano, Northern Italy.
From storms atop the Himalayas to extreme arctic cold to the scorching heat of the North African deserts, etc, its range of climactic chambers can house equipment, machinery, plants and other organisms, as well as products both small and large for extended periods of time.
They combine hypobaric and altitude technology with state-of-the-art environmental simulation, aiming to investigate the effects of extreme climate conditions on humans, ecological processes and industrial products.
It is a safe, controllable and reproducible environment to study human physiology and alpine ecology. The structure is also available to research partners, industry and for training purposes.
