Japanese love (aka: sex) hotels are called Rabuhos.
Started in Osaka in 1968, there are now over 37,000 rabuhos in Japan. The main function of these short-stay hotels is providing a romantic fantasy escape for couples to have sex in.
Due to Japan’s culture of shame, guilt and lack of privacy, the rabuhos give couples an opportunity to get away from it all and repopulate Japan.
The country of Japan is experiencing massive problems in the form of an aging population and sexless millennials.
Thus, the rabuhos, while allowing for extracurricular activities, are providing a civic duty to Japan. Or at leas that’s what the Japanese tourism board tells us.
