The city of Detroit, Michigan, is holding General Elections for mayor, city council, clerk, board of police commissioners, community advisory council, and a variety of issues on Tuesday, November 02, 2021.
One of the issues, named Proposal E, would effectively Decriminalize Psychedelic Plants and Fungi in the City of Detroit.
Proposal E
Prop E would decriminalize the therapeutic use of some hallucinogenic plants, like psilocybin, mescaline or peyote, generally classified in federal law as Schedule I drugs.
Cities like Ann Arbor and Washington, D.C. have recently passed similar measures, and voters in Grand Rapids will also vote on such a proposal in November.
Approval of Prop E would not legalize use of such plants, but simply direct the Detroit Police Department to cease directing resources to investigating and prosecuting Detroiters for the use of such substances. Nor does Prop E decriminalize the sale of entheogenic plants.
