Australian sports betting operator PointsBet has signed a new multi-year deal with the Detroit Red Wings to become the official gaming partner.
PointsBet has a unique type of betting, aptly named ‘pointsbetting.’ This form of wagering where the winnings or losses of a bet are not determined until the end of a game.
The agreement with the Red Wings includes the opening of a PointsBet Sports Bar at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit.
This agreement follows a similar deal between PointsBet and the Detroit Tigers.
The partnership will allow the PointsBet brand to grow even further. The operator will receive prominent brand exposure through virtual on-ice signage, which will be visible on television broadcasts.
Additionally, there will be PointsBet LED signage and branding throughout the Little Caesars Arena when the Red Wings are on the ice.
Red Wings Welcome Deal
Chris Granger, group president of sports & entertainment for Red Wings owner Ilitch Holdings, stated that the Red Wings fans would “enjoy the lively atmosphere of the PointsBet Sports Bar.”
Granger also feels that this agreement will increase the energy and atmosphere on game day in and around the arena. Granger said the Red Wings are “proud” as they enhance their relationship with PointsBet, and they will be aiming to create a “dynamic” experience for their fans.
This multi-year deal is the second for PointsBet in Michigan following their partnership with the MLB’s Detroit Tigers, which was announced last July. News of this new deal coincides with the launch of online sports betting in Michigan, which is due to begin within the next few days.
PointsBet Continue Expansion in United States
PointsBet USA chief executive Johnny Aitken said the company is “thrilled” as they have extended their relationship with the Ilitch organization.
Aitken described the Red Wings as a “legendary NHL franchise with an extremely passionate fanbase.”
Speaking more about the opportunities this deal presents, Aitken said they could now look forward to “leveraging our competitive advantage of owning our technology environment.” He said this would complement the PointsBet app’s “market-leading speed.”
