LEELANAU COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) — The Platte River Campground inside the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is being nationally recognized.
USA Today recently ranked it the 4th-best campground in America for 2021.
The campground is located within walking distance from Lake Michigan and the Platte River.
Park Rangers said there are endless outdoor recreation opportunities right outside of the campground, including hiking, biking, kayaking and fishing.
The location can host RV’s, tents and even backcountry campers.
There are 179 sites and roughly 500 people camp there each night.
Each campsite has a fire ring and picnic table, with restrooms and showers available in each camp section.
For more primitive campers, the White Pine “backcountry” campground is available on a nearby trail.
