Odie Slocum Book Talk

On Thursday, June 27, retired Air Force Brig. Gen. Doug “Odie” Slocum will speak about his new book “Violent Positivity.” The book was released in February, published by Slocum.

The free event will begin at 6 p.m. at The War Memorial, located at 32 Lake Shore Drive in Grosse Pointe Farms.

“People can expect to hear leadership lessons learned over 35 years,” Slocum said. “I had some absolutely fantastic opportunities to take care of people in my career. My book is the story of how I got in the position to do that and how it all came about.”

From growing up as a “military brat” to a career as a fighter pilot in the Air Force and Air National Guard, Slocum chronicles his journey of experiences and lessons that led to his people-centric approach to leadership, which he calls “Violent Positivity.”

Slocum is the former commanding general of the 127th Wing at Selfridge Air National Guard Base.

“I’ll provide some great insights into leadership that focuses on people,” Slocum said. “I think there are stories here that need to be told. A lot of my motivation was to document some of the cool things that have happened and how they came about.”
