North Channel Sturgeon Classic

Brought to you by St. Clair-Detroit River Sturgeon For Tomorrow & the Pearl Beach Lions Club, this charity tournament is catch & release.

The North Channel Sturgeon Classic (NCSC) is a fishing contest with cash prizes,  awarded for the 3 longest lake sturgeon caught and digitally registered by cell phone during the 14-hour fishing period.

The Classic is the only Catch-and-Release Lake Sturgeon Fishing Tournament in the Great Lakes area.

A mandatory Captain’s meeting will be held prior to the bump board pick up.

All proceeds from The Classic will be used to accomplish the charitable purposes of the Pearl Beach Lions and Sturgeon for Tomorrow.

The purpose of the tournament is to showcase Clay Township, the “Sturgeon Angling Capitol of Michigan”, to create awareness of this special local fish and fishery, and to promote ethical and sustainable fishing while protecting this threatened species.

Excess profits from this charity tournament are used to protect lake sturgeon and to help the seeing impaired. It is a fun event that gives anglers the opportunity to interact with others who are like minded and to share their experiences.

Anglers who have not fished for lake sturgeon will be able to learn the techniques and how to properly handle and release these large fish. We hope this will be an ongoing event that will bring tourism to the area and will promote local commerce.
