Michigan Mushroom Hunters Club (MMHC) provides opportunities for amateur and experienced hunters to commune both with nature and with others who share an interest in and appreciation for nature’s bounty.
The annual Fungus Fest is open to the general public.
Upon arrival, please go to the registration area in the River Hawk Conference Center to pick up your name tag and information.
Whether it is discovering a new culinary delight, getting out in the great outdoors, or simply enjoying the company of others, your membership and participation will prove to be one of great benefit.
If you are new to the world of mushroom hunting or mycology, you should attend one of MMHC’s public hunts and/or other educational events where they will help you to get started in this rewarding activity.
What: Fungus Fest @ Proud Lake Rec Area
When: September 27-29, 2024
Where: River Hawk Lodge & Conference Center inside Proud Lake State Recreation Area (2700 Glengary Rd, Commerce Charter Twp, MI)
Time: Friday (1pm – 10pm), Saturday (9am – 10pm), Sunday (9am – 1pm)
Cost: Free event but you must register (however, a $10 rec passport is needed per vehicle to enter the park)

Fungus Fest Schedule
Friday
1:00 pm -Vendor setup. Conference Hall table setup. We need volunteers to help with setup.
1:00 pm Member registration and Check in. Pick up name tags and event calendar at the River Hawk Conference Center.
2:00pm – Hunt. Led by Lenny. Meet at the Dining hall outside deck Staging area
2:00 pm – Hunt. Led by Scott. Meet at the Dining hall outside deck Staging area
3:15 pm -. Overnight stay rooms are able to be accessed.
5:00 pm – Dinner. Pizza and salad to be provided to all members who registered for FF and have a name tag.
6:30 pm – Evening Event: Making of Mushroom kits with Kirk outside the Conference Event Center.
8:00 pm – Evening Speaker: Diane Pruden
10:00 pm Conference hall locked for the evening.
Saturday
9:00 am – Registration and handout of Fungus Fest schedule.
9:30 am – Hunt. Beginner Hunt talk and hunt afterwards with Phil Tedeschi. Meet inside the Display tables conference center.
9:30 am – Hunt. Led by Lenny. Meet at the Dining hall outside deck Staging area.
10:00 am – Hunt. Led by Heather Johnson. Slow walker hunt. Meet at the Dining hall outside deck Staging area
12:00 noon – Lunch. Sub sandwiches to be provided to all members who registered for FF or have a name tag.
1:00 pm Cooking With Kirk Coppernoll
1:30 pm – Hunt. Led by Antoine Delaforterie. Meet at the Dining hall outside deck Staging area
1:30 pm Hunt by Scott and Karen . Meet at the Dining hall outside deck Staging area
4:00 pm – Walk around the mushroom exhibit tables with Walt Sturgeon.
5:00 pm – Auction at the Dining Hall.
6:00 pm – Pot Luck dinner to be provided to all members who registered for FF or have a name tag.
8:00 pm – Presentation led by Walt Sturgeon
10:00 pm – Conference hall locked for the evening.
