Founded in 1880, the Michigan Funeral Directors Association is the USA’s oldest organization of funeral professionals.
MFDA currently represents roughly 1,300 funeral directors serving 650 funeral homes statewide, representing over three-quarters of all mortuary science licensees in Michigan. All MFDA members agree to adhere to a strict Code of Ethics, which is enforced by a Committee on Consumer Protection, Grievance & Ethics.
MFDA seeks to enhance the value of funeral service and the profession through government advocacy, public information, professional education, and member communication programs.
The Michigan Funeral Directors Association is a private professional association representing approximately 85% of all funeral homes in Michigan. The MFDA maintains a strict Code of Ethics, and consumers would be well advised to inquire whether a particular funeral home with which they intend to do business is a member in good standing of the MFDA.
The Michigan Funeral Directors Association is not a State agency. The public agency responsible for the regulation of funeral service is the State Board of Examiners in Mortuary Science, administered by the Department of Licensing & Regulatory Affairs.
