Martha Reeves is the lead singer of the Motown girl group Martha and the Vandellas.
She is headed to the Hollywood Walk of Fame — but not without a little hometown fanfare first.
The Motown star and her team are holding a social mixer on March 4 at the lavish Saint John’s Resort in Plymouth.
Proceeds from the event will help fund a Los Angeles reception for Reeves following her star ceremony at the famed Hollywood attraction.
The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce has not announced an official date, but Reeves’ Hollywood Walk of Fame moment is expected during the first half of this year. She earned her spot last year following a worldwide fundraising campaign, with fan donations helping hit the $50,000 target to lock down the star.
Her Saint John’s mixer, from 6 to 10 p.m. March 4, will include wine, cheese, piano music and performances by Reeves.
There will also be raffles and a silent auction that includes signed memorabilia from members of the Four Tops, Supremes, the Go-Go’s and others, along with items autographed by Reeves.
“The first phase of the fundraiser was a great success — we were able to raise the funds for the star,” said Reeves’ manager, Christopher Roe, who spearheaded the donation campaign. “Now this final phase of fundraising will be for the reception on her special day.”
“For Martha, it’s a dream finally coming true. She’s been waiting a long time for this. We’ve had many hills to climb, but we’ve finally made it,” said Roe. “And it couldn’t have been done without generosity and love from her fans and colleagues around the world.”
