MUSKEGON, MI – Do you think you could eat a giant taco in 15 minutes?
That’s the new challenge at La Casa Fierro, 1427 W. Sherman Blvd., in Muskegon, Michigan.
The Mexican American restaurant started serving the “Big Taco” in November 2021. Customers who can eat the $15 taco in 15 minutes receive a t-shirt that gets them a free taco with any purchase.
“It’s been a big hit,” said owner Maria Briceno.
To assemble the Big Taco, La Casa Fierro takes a homemade 13-inch corn tortilla, deep fries it and loads it with beans, meat, lettuce, tomato, cheese and sour cream.
Briceno says about half the people who attempt the challenge are successful.
“Our fastest person completed it in 4 minutes 18 seconds,” she said. “So that was pretty crazy.”
La Casa Fierro, formerly known as Pablo’s Tacos, was opened by Pablo Fierro in 2010. The family-run restaurant is now managed by Briceno, Fierro’s daughter.
Other than the newly introduced Big Taco, La Casa Fierro is known for its burritos, fajitas, enchiladas and taco days.
On Tuesdays and Fridays, they serve $1.25 beef tacos either American style with lettuce, tomato and cheese or Mexican style with onion and cilantro. They’re available for $2.25 the rest of the week.
Another favorite is the King Burrito that is stuffed with ground beef or chicken, refried beans, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, sour cream and cheese. A dry burrito is available for $8.49 and a wet burrito for $9.49.
La Casa Fierro is open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. The restaurant can be reached at 231-759-8400.
