The Islandview Sauna Club on Detroit’s east side has announced it has completed a major upgrade. The cost of the project was not released.
Located at 1000 Beaufait, just north of E. Lafayette Street, improvements to the club, which is owned by a husband-and-wife team, include adding several wood-burning saunas, an outdoor cold plunge experience, and a new, retreat-like setting.
“We wanted to make sure that when guests cross into the sauna grounds, they feel like they are in a northern Michigan camp with wood smoke in the air, a fire crackling at the entrance, and heat rising from our handcrafted saunas,” says Jacques Driscoll, co-owner of Islandview Sauna Club.
Co-owner Christine Driscoll advises sauna-goers to arrive 15 minutes prior to their appointment to get settled, change, and hear safety guidelines.
Guests also should bring a robe or towel, a bathing suit, a towel to sit on, flip flops or slide shoes, a water bottle, and an optional sauna hat.

After the sauna/plunge session, guests are welcome to hang out in the basecamp tent or at the bonfire (weather permitting).
The current setup includes three wood-fired saunas ranging in size and intensity, a cold plunge tub with a larger communal plunge in development, and a canvas tent that serves as a changing area and gathering space.
Unlike traditional indoor sauna facilities, Islandview intentionally places guests outdoors between sessions.
The Driscoll’s also operate Green Dot Stables, Johnny Noodle King, Kiesling Detroit, and two Detroit branches of Yellow Light Coffee and Donuts.
Current club hours are Friday from 4-8 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 1-5 p.m.
Appointments are necessary and can be made at islandviewsauna.com.
The cost is $25 per hour, and space is limited.
