Greenfield Village in Dearborn, Michigan is a 250 acre international destination spot.
People from all over the world visit the Village & Henry Ford Museum. (And here’s your spooky morbid fact of the day: inside the museum, they have the seat that President Abe Lincoln was killed in and also the car that President JFK was killed in!)
One of Greenfield Village’s most popular events is the annual Christmas-themed Holiday Nights.
They average 8,000 attendees per night for this awesome event.
In classic Christmas fashion, there are many things to experience:
- Roasting chestnuts
- Carolers in Victorian-era clothing
- Eating delicious carved roast beef sandwiches (w/ BBQ sauce & fried onions) around bonfires
- Going on Model T rides
- Drinking hot chocolate
- Outdoor ice rink
- Beerhalls
- Watching glassblowers create trinkets out of candy cane-colored glass
- Ride a vintage carousel
- Walk under the circa 1823 covered wooden bridge
- Get a holiday letterpress souvenir at the Printing Press building, etc.
Be sure to listen to Anthony Lucas, the amazing storyteller, recite The Night Before Christmas at the Scotch Settlement School bonfire.
Lady Ranka plays the hammered dulcimer inside the Taste of History cafeteria.
The Village Pavilion dinner hall is usually packed and has good food.
While strolling the village, check out the once-a-year opened Cotswold Cottage (c. 1619 limestone cottage from Chedworth, England).
You could sign up for the 7-course dinner at Eagle Tavern (c. 1850).
And don’t forget the spectacular fireworks finale on the Town Hall green.
