Detroit River Youth Career Expo

The Detroit/Wayne County Port Authority (DWCPA) and the University of Michigan’s Detroit River Story Lab have partnered to inspire Detroit area young people (ages 15 – 25 years) to consider college, vocational and career pathways in maritime, environmental science, water resource management, health & education, and communications & culture, among others at the Detroit River Youth Career Expo.

Among the employers who will be looking to hire and provide internships are: Interlake Steamship Company, American Steamship Company, Riverside Marina, the United States Coast Guard and Bridge Detroit Magazine.

Colleges at the event will include the Great Lakes Maritime Academy (“GLMA”), University of Michigan and Henry Ford College.

The Seafarers International Union will also be recruiting mariners to train and work on ships in the Great Lakes and around the world.

Detroit River Youth Career Expo

The event will take place at the Port Authority’s riverfront dock facility located at 130 E. Atwater on Saturday June 22nd from 9:30 – 1:30. Participants will meet representatives from 21 firms and educational institutions and will be able to tour the GLMA’s training vessel, The State of Michigan, and see what it’s like to stand on the bridge of a commercial ship.
