NORTHVILLE — The owner of a sprawling 16,000-square-foot classic European-style estate near downtown Northville, Michigan wants to sell the home and he’s ready to make a deal.
Dubbed “Castello Montebello,” the sprawling mansion was built in 2000 and is owned by Dr. Thomas Prose.
The property was originally listed in 2015 for $14.5 million and was most recently on the market for $4.9 million. On Monday, Aug. 26, the home will hit the auction block with bidding set to begin at a mere $1.5 million.
“The seller is motivated; he wants the property sold,” said Charlotte, N.C.-based Interluxe Auctions Vice President Stacy Kirk, who is handling the sale. “He’s ready to pass the torch to the next family so they can make their dreams come true.”
The home sits at 590 Dubuar Street – west of Center Street between Main Street and Eight Mile – at what is said to be the highest elevation in Wayne and Washtenaw counties.
It boasts seven bedrooms, seven full bathrooms, and two half baths, along with guard house, a striking four-story free-floating staircase, a light-filled great room with soaring ceilings, a lavish owner’s suite, paneled library, heated three-car and four-car garages, and an elevator.
But that’s not all.
The lower level, said to be designed for “ultimate entertainment,” features a stylish wet bar with adjacent booth-style seating, a game room, an exercise room, and a wine cellar.

Bidding will take place online exclusively online when the auction begins at 9 a.m. Monday, Aug. 26.
Previews are Friday and Saturday, Aug. 23-24, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 25 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
