The Smiths’ former St. Clair Shores house hit the market Monday with a selling price of $499,000. An open house is scheduled from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday.
The two-story house is at 22501 Beach St., just north of 10 Mile. The 2,116-square-foot “Storybook” home, as described by the Realtor, sits on a canal and is a very short distance from Lake St. Clair.
Several stories in Patti Smith’s memoir, “M Train,” released in 2015, took place at the house.
Smiths’ son, Jackson Smith, who lived in the house until he was “13 turning 14.”
Jackson Smith said his parents bought the home, which was built in 1918, in 1980. His father, the late MC5 guitarist, died in 1994. The family moved to New York two years later, but he said his mother maintained ownership of the house until 2015.
