Joe Petrovich, a brick paver from Melville, was spearfishing with friends in Marmion Marine Park off the coast at Burns Beach in Perth, Australia.
Shortly after getting into the water, a 15 foot long Great White Shark spotted Joe and began circling.
He used his spear to fend the shark off, but it wasn’t backing down without a fight.
Joe filmed the whole thing on his GoPro camera.
Joe finally reached the stern of his boat unharmed, but with part of his fin mauled.
His mates, spearfishing nearby, had been totally oblivious to the life-and-death struggle.
The Marmion Marine Park – the area where Joe and his pals were fishing – is described by Parks and Wildlife as a paradise for divers.
