Ann Arbor restauranteur Jon Carlson is opening a new spot in downtown A2 called The Ranch, a honky-tonk bar.
The first floor fits about 75 people and also contains large photographs of country singers Johnny Cash and Dolly Parton, as well as a large steer head. There will be live music on the first floor.
Upstairs, old Western photographs line the bar’s red and off-white walls.
Downstairs in the basement, a large lit-up sign that reads “Ranch” and stone walls greet incoming visitors. A DJ area and additional horse-saddle seats will also live in the basement, which can fit about 100 people.
You can even order a 10-gallon “hat bowl,” which can serve two-to-four people each.
Carlson grew up on Traverse City’s Old Mission Peninsula, graduated from UofM in 1993 and soon after started Grizzly Peak Brewery.
