North American Luge Cup: featuring world’s top luge athletes (Sun. March 02, 2025) Negaunee, Michigan’s U.P.

Michigan is one of the top states for luging.

There is a half-mile natural luge track at Lucy Hill in Negaunee, west of in the Upper Peninsula.

“Negaunee’s Lucy Hill is the only competition track for natural luge in the United States!” according to the track’s website. “US athletes train here before traveling to World Cup and World Championship competitions in Europe.”

“You’ve seen luge sleds rocketing down ice-glazed tubes during the Winter Olympics — that’s Kunstbahn luge,” the Negaunee club says. “Naturbahn luge is even more exciting because the track winds down a natural, unrefrigerated hill, bordered by boards and snow banks. A Naturbahn luge sled is similar to an old-fashioned wooden sled with metal runners.”

Luge, a sport that requires athletes to lay back flat on a sled or toboggan they steer with their feet, is a serous winter sport, and has been an Olympic sport since 1964.
