21-year-old female cartel boss, Maria Guadalupe Lopez Esquivel (aka: La Catrina), a local boss in the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) in the Tierra Caliente region of Michoacán, was fatally wounded in a clash with federal and state forces on Friday, January 10, 2020.
She was killed in La Bocanada village, Tepalcatepec city, Michoacán state, SW Mexico.
Back on October 14, 2019, Esquivel commanded an ambush that killed 13 cops and injured numerous others in the Michoacán city of Aguililla.
Catrina, famed for her Instagram posts boasting of the cartel life, was said to be one of El Mencho’s most important regional lieutenants.
Documents seized by authorities indicate she was involved in kidnapping, extortion and other criminal activities, and had herself commanded cartel assassins.
La Catrina ran with Jalisco New Generation Cartel leader Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, or “El Mencho.”
The United States Department of State is offering a reward of up to US $10 million reward for information leading to the arrest of suspected leader El Mencho.
