Kai Xu the 27-year old Canadian Turtle Smuggler

Being a CBP Agent must be hilarious sometimes. Like when you find a man with 51 turtles in his sweatpants.

Kai Xu (27) of Windsor, Ontario was caught at the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel smuggling 51 live turtles inside mini-boxes of Kellogg’s cereal in his pants after “the Special Agent noticed irregularly shaped bulges under Xu’s sweatpants.”

Apparently, between April 2014-September 2014, Xu smuggled some 1600 turtles out of the USA and shipped them to China via Windsor, Ontario. Some of the turtles sold for up to $800 each.

Kai Xu will be sentenced in Ann Arbor, Michigan on April 12th, 2016. He’s looking at up to 10-years in prison.
