Judge Greg Mathis was born in Detroit, grew up in the Herman Gardens housing projects (Joy Road and Southfield Fwy, NW Detroit), was involved in street gangs in his youth, ended up graduating from Eastern Michigan University in 1984 and became a judge.
Judge Mathis used to be at Michigan’s 36th District Courthouse in Downtown Detroit, the USA’s largest and busiest courthouse. He eventually started his own reality court television show for small claims cases called “Judge Mathis” and is based in Chicago.
