In 1737, the first St. Patrick’s Day in the USA was celebrated in Boston.
NYC has the world’s largest St. Patty’s Day Parade. Some 300,000 people march down 5th Avenue from 44th to 79th Street. They are cheered on by 3 million spectators!
Detroit’s cousin city, Chicago, has been dyeing the Chicago River green on St. Patty’s Day since 1962.
Every St. Patty’s Day at 9am, the Chicago Journeyman Plumbers dump 40 tons of green dye into the Chicago River at Michigan Avenue, Upper & Lower Wacker Drive bridge area.
