Netflix has confirmed that Adam Sandler is currently filming a sequel to his 1996 hit film ‘Happy Gilmore’.
The 1996 comedy stands written by Sandler and Tim Herlihy stands as one of Sandler’s most popular films, telling the store of an ice hockey player who discovers he can channel his anger into winning pro golf tournaments.
Some 28 years later, ‘Happy Gilmore 2‘ is currently in production.
Julie Bowen and Christopher McDonald are back for the sequel, having starred in the original film, respectively, as Virginia Venit, Sandler’s onscreen love interest, and Shooter McGavin, a jealous golf pro and the film’s villain.
Happy Gilmore 2 is shooting in New Jersey in Bergen, Essex, Monmouth, Morris and Somerset counties from September through November.
Sandler has been nominated for three Grammys, five Primetime Emmys, a Golden Globe and a SAG Award. Last year, Sandler was awarded the prestigious Mark Twain Prize for American Humor at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
Sandler is known for his distinctive style of dressing. In fact, in 2021, Vogue named him the year’s fashion icon for popularizing the “grocery-run look,” which includes wearing oversized T-shirts, XXL-sized pants and Nike sneakers.
