That’s right, World. The good ole USA will probably be legalizing marijuana for recreational use soon. Well……soon-ish.
“420” is the “password for stoner culture.”
The holiday of 4/20 started on April 20th, 1971. It was started by five high schools students in Northern California.
The “Five Waldo’s” as they came to be called, attended San Rafael High School in San Rafael, California.
The Five Waldo’s are: Dave Reddix, Steve Capper, Jeff Noel, Larry Schwartz, and Mark Gravich. In the early 1970’s, Reddix was a roadie for the Grateful Dead. His brother Patrick was good friends with the bass player Phil Lesh and got him the job.
They used to meet after school at 4:20 p.m. and go on adventures, search for a mythical pot field planted by a member of the U.S. Coast Guard on the Point Reyes National Seashore. The Coastguardsman’s brother gave them a crudely drawn map to help them find it.
Although they never found the green garden of ganja, they did manage to inadvertently create an international cannabis holiday.
And the Five Waldo’s are still great friends who regularly hang out together to this day.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, WEED!
